Fudge has been with me now for 10 weeks and I'm so glad to have gotten the first few weeks under our belts ... that honeymoon period was a bit like both of us being on best behaviour and not readily showing the side of us which is, perhaps, less attractive. Now we're really getting to know each other. We now go to Dog School once a week so we can meet other breeds and owners and do some training too. Fudge draws a lot of attention to himself for no other reason than he's very well behaved and good looking. He's learned a few new words and knows what to do with them but sometimes chooses to ignore them completely. I've learned other things about him at dog school too ... like the fact he actually enjoys playing with toys - up to a couple of weeks ago he was not interested in all those I'd got for him and which are in his 'room'. Then at school we did a 'find and retrieve' exercise outdoors and Fudge found and retrieved the squeaky duck and went on to give it a good hiding! So, at home, I put his toys outside and lo and behold he has a game with them now. He's venturing more out of his crate too ... until the last week or so he would spend the evening in his crate, of his choice, rather than venture to the front room where he has another of this three squishy beds. Now he comes out of his crate and wanders through to the front room for the evening. I've learned how to clip his nails, do his ears and brush his teeth and, bless him, he's patient with me about it all - I'll be a lot better and more efficient once I've gotten more confidence too. We walk out twice a day over the fields and down along the river ... there are a few fave walks Fudge likes and most of the time he's excellent on his lead. If he gets really on the scent of something he sometimes forgets I'm on the other end of his leash but a reminder I'm there and he lets up. So, things are looking really good ... and Fudge is likely to have a girlfriend by the summertime, with a bit of luck, too and that would just be perfect!

Oh Kate what a wonderful update. Needless to say I'm crying as I read it.
How exciting if Fudge is to have a female friend.
Looking forward to further updates.

Jackie, he is a total and utter delight to have! Yes, with luck, 'Wish' at Kama's Cave might be Fudge's girlfriend. She's yet to finish racing if I understand Ann correctly. Fudge and Wish have had a run about in the paddock and seem quite happy together. And, there's further news on Fudge's antics ... he went to Dog Skool last night and earned his Kennel Club Bronze Citizenship Dog Award and had a rosette and certificate presented to him ... I'll see if I can upload a photo too. I just love him to bits ... XXX

No, I don't kno how to do this flamin' photo upload business ... so, you'll have to use ur imagination girls! Sorry. But, bet ur bottom dollar, he looked like a star and put the other breeds to shame! Funny how it seems greyhounds endear people to them so easily and warmly and will readily learn new stuff.

Fudge had his first Gotcha Day yesterday and albeit I went along to help Ann with Imogen and Hudsom coming to the UK we celebrated handsomely this grand anniversary with some special treats for Fudge and extra sniffings on his late afternoon walk. He has developed into a really wonderful friend and I am so glad he is in my world. We still go weekly Dog Training and his skills are very well developed now though, in fairness, he kind of forgets some of it when in the open air. He is also a PAT dog and we make a weekly visit to a nursing home which Fudge and the residents really enjoy. And, of course, Fudge got to choose his 'girl' from Kama's Cave and now has his greyhound girl, Wish, who has been able to teach Fudge how to chill out a bit more. Thank you Jackie for his Gotcha Day card ... it will go into Fudge's Memory Box in due course. Thanks also to everyone on the Forum and Facebook for expanding my understanding of this wonderful breed of dog and for a whole lot of fun and laughs too.
