This is Debbie. She came into Kama's Cave about 4 weeks ago with her huge chocolate button eyes and a face which said she'd had a rough time of it for the last few years. She's 10 yrs old. It seems that when she was about 2 she suffered an injury to the hock area of one of her back legs and this went untreated. The upshot is that she wasn't using that leg at all to walk and rarely put it to the ground. She's a beautiful old girl and Ann and Paul decided to take her in to the kennels to give her a chance for some quality to the rest of her life even though she'll need some extra care given the leg. Julia at the vets has Debbie on anti inflammatories and Ann and Paul, at their expense, give her Glucosamine, MSM and Devil's Claw daily to help ease any discomfort and encourage mobility but it remains unclear whether she will have to have the leg amputated. Anyway, Debbie worked her way directly to my heart when I first saw her and appreciating the expense Ann and Paul have for buying her the additional meds I came up with an idea which I hope may raise a few extra funds dedicated to buying these supplies for Debbie. So, on behalf of KC, I am running a Lucky Draw. Donations are in multiples of £1 and as many donations as you would like to make will all be welcome. Payment can be made via Paypal to kate.tingey@btopenworld.com . The Lucky Draw is for a walking stick carved out of, we believe, Holly wood, and has a greyhound head at the top. The length is approx 35" and it is out of one piece of wood. Pictures will be below. Each £1 donations gets one entry to the Lucky Draw which will be made at the Kama's Cave Show on 22 July 2012 and the winner can either collect in person or I can post the stick on. If you can help by making a donation to this particular cause it would be greatly appreciated and dedicated to Debbie. Many thanks for reading. Kate

Thanks for this Lorraine .... I have uploaded some pictures to Facebook I took today at Kama's Cave of Debbie (soz I can't seem to upload them directly here for everyone to see) ... she is looking so much happier. She's in with Ann and Paul and had a bath yesterday. Her supplements are making her more comfy though she's still not able to use the back right leg much. She is clearly enjoying the comforts of being in with Ann and Paul and the dogs and she was an utter angel. I think what has really got to me about her is that she is an old girl and really has had so few moments of joy in her life and it makes me feel so sad to think she may only have two or three years left in her life but that if it can be made more comfortable and she can enjoy in her old age the company of fellow greys and the tlc from Ann & Paul then the additional expense of her care seems the least us humans can do for her. The photos I took today are testament to the improvement in her personal wellbeing albeit the leg remains a problem. But, she is so much happier and brighter in herself and I just love her to bits.

So far we've had £77 of donations for The Lucky Draw to help pay for Debbie's supplements. Ann has worked out that it will cost about £15 per month for them. As to the vet's fees, well it's uncertain what the next course of action will be and that will be something for Ann and Julia to discuss when they next meet. Debbie is now indoors with Ann and Paul and has fitted in a treat. She snucks down in her basket and nods repeatedly to get you to come to her for cuddles. Her leg is still not put to the floor that much but it seems much more comfy than it was when she first arrived. The Lucky Draw will be made at the Kama's Cave Show on 22 July and if anyone wants to make a donation to have a go at winning the walking stick then please donate by Paypal to kate.tingey@btopenworld.com - each entry is a £1 donation. For those who don't have Paypal please send a cheque to Ann at Kama's Cave and she will let me know to make the entry for you. I'll keep you updated as we go and thank you for helping Debbie ...
