For those folk who don't get to Facebook I thought I'd just pass on some details of a new hound who has come to kennels. I went as chaperone with Ann to Hull to collect greyhound Macie as a mercy dash to help save her. The RGT had a call from a person advising they could no longer keep a hound that they had taken in as a pet and needed the hound removed asap. Ann dashed up to Yorkshire and we get Macie. Bless her soul, she is pretty wrecked! So scared, full of fleas, a bony emaciated young girl. Ann is running a special Auction on FB of several special items to raise funds to help get Macie back on the road to recovery. Photo's will be put up next week of Macie and how she was when we got her and what the developments are. If you possibly can get to Facebook to follow her story I know Ann would really appreciate it. I'm a fairly hard hearted person but Macie brought me close to crumbling. Alie will be coming to kennels on 18 Sept to take some special photos and will no doubt share those on here as well as FB. I'll keep you posted as we go as best I can but, if you can bare to visit FB next week, Macie's full story will unfold.

I can think of no safer haven than with Ann & Paul. I think especially of the state that darling Holly was in when she arrived and how beautiful she soon looked with their dedication and attention.
I do not have a FB account so will send some money via Paypal.
Kate should this be to your good self or Ann?
Jackie xx

Hi Jackie, lovely to hear from you again. Hope you are well and the young girl, boy and David too. If you would like to send to Ann at her usual paypal address that would be brilliant. Bless Macie .... Ann and Paul have been feeding her four modest meals per day comprising of orijin and goat milk powder and she is woofing it down. She's a determined young lady and, as you say about Holly, it looks like she will soon be back to good health. I'll keep you posted on updates on her progress from notes Ann puts on FB and from my visits to the kennels. Love to you all. Kate XXX

From Ann .... "Following an urgent call with the RGT Kate and I went up North on a 250 mile round trip and rescued from a 'pet' owners house a Greyhound Bitch. Bless her heart, she is called Macie (racing name Keepers Gem). She's a big boned bitch with a racing weight of I should think around the 30kg mark ( and her pet weight should be more than that!) but we found her flea ridden, with cuts and sores and in an emaciated state at just 22kg! She was scared witless. There was no water or bed for Macie in the house where we got her from. No evidence of food and, worse still, it looked like she had been abandoned to the back garden and, when she was allowed in, was kept under the stairs and there was blood on the floor and up the stair wall too. She was terrified! Macie was so scared she even flattened herself against the stair wall from her 'owner' and only with forcing her against the wall was it possible to fit a collar and lead. The collar, even on the smallest hole, was way too big. We took her to the van and had to lift her up and into it and she shook and the white of her eyes gazed at us. But, we calmed her and settled her down and we left the wretch of a 'home' to make our way back to Kama's Cave and the start of her new life. Here are the pictures to tell the tale .... My Auction of items to raise funds to help Macie recover her health will be posted tomorrow .... if you possibly can help with our fundraising I and Macie will be really chuffed. It will help with her flea/worm treatments, orijin and goats milk and supplements to get her back on top form."

These are Lorraine's most recent pics of Macie Gray. Ann was due to take Macie to the vet on Monday to have her speyed as she is now heavy enough to undergo the anaesthetic. But, unfortunately, she wasn't able to have the surgery. Ann says : "Macie Gray could not be speyed today as she had pio Derma and has antibiotice for that so she is re booked for the 8th October". Poor Macie ... what with everything else she's had and going through, this is another thing Ann & Paul need to deal with. But, she is so much better than when we collected her. Good Luck Macie ... you're getting there!

Lovely to see the photos of Macie, sorry to read she has pyoderma. Just read about it and we hope the antibiotics do the trick.
