This is Debbie, a beautiful brindle girl, who came to live with us at the grand old age of 10 years. Sadly, Debbie hasn't had a great time having suffered an injury to her hock that appears to have gone untreated. As a consequence, she finds it hard to place her foot on the ground. Having seen Ann's vet Julia, she is now on anti-inflammatory medication and additionally, Glucosamine, MSM & Devil's Claw to aid her pain and suffering. As you can imagine, these all come at a cost and so are you able to sponsor her to help out? Thank you for looking.

‘Debbie’
If I could tell you about my life It’s been a lot of trouble and strife I was gonna be good at running and chasing But then I got injured and was tossed out from racing I spent my best years being left all alone With my sore leg untreated a bent up old bone My life was just miserable and painful aswell But then I was rescued which made my heart swell Would there be a chance that I could be Happy and safe and made more comfy I glimpsed what I hoped was a kind hearted soul Who looked at me sadly and full of woe I talked through my eyes and said ‘Yes I am Old’ But please do not judge me because I seem cold I just want a chance to feel sun on my back Warm grass under my feet would help I know that I liked Kama’s Cave, it seemed so safe And before I knew it, I’d secured my place I live in the house with new friends, Ann and Paul I can’t believe my luck that I came by them all I try to be good and fit in with the gang And I know they accept me for just who I am Your help to help them pay for my stay Would, I know, help them a long way If you could donate or sponsor me I promise to be the best I can be

If everything works out ok, Debbie should be coming along to Somersham Carnival on 23 June 2012! Frank has organised a stall for Kama's Cave and I'll be there helping Ann run the Tombola and we'll take the greyhound walking stick with us too so that hopefully we'll be able to sell some Lucky Dip tickets at £1 each, the winner of which wins the walking stick which is made, we think, of holly wood and has a hand carved greyhound head at the top. If anyone wants to donate a £1 (or more) entry into the Lucky Draw then please paypal your donation to kate.tingey@btopenworld.com or send a cheque to Ann at Kama's Cave. The draw will be made at Ann's show on 22 July at The Fun Farm at Weston, Nr Spalding. All proceeds go to help pay toward Debbie's Glucosamine, MSM, Devil's Claw and vet fees. If you possibly can make a donation, it would be greatly appreciated as Debbie is unlikely to ever find a forever home of her own and will likely see the rest of her days with Ann and Paul in their home so the expense of her supplements is borne by them alone. I know times are tough, but every bit of money raised truly does help, as it does with all the other funds raised for all the dogs. If you're near Somersham on 23 June, please call by. Frank will have a lot of hounds there too and I understand others will be visiting so should be a good show of greyhounds for the day.

Well, Debbie did come along to Somersham Carnival where Frank, Hazel and their Gang had organised gazebo and rest area for the dogs and plenty of room for our huge Tombola. We raised a massive £210 on the day and Debbie had a fantastic time, albeit she was shattered at the end of it and when she got back to the kennels, Paul had to help her to mobilise out of the van and walk herself indoors. She thoroughly loved it .... and .... even more fantastic news. Our beautiful Debbie of 10 years of age and with only three working legs has found her forever home - Frank and Hazel and their Gang loved her and have offered their home to her for the rest of her days! We shall continue with the Lucky Draw for the Greyhound Walking Stick and all proceeds will go to paying for the supplements Debbie needs to keep her comfortable with her wonky leg. Thank you everyone for your support and if anyone fancies a go in the Lucky Draw it is £1 donation per entry by paypal (or cheque to Ann if easier) to kate.tingey@btopenworld.com. The Draw will be made at the Show on 22 July! Good Luck in the Draw and Good Luck to Debbie in her new home.

I can hardly believe it either. An old girl with a wonky leg and needing lots of tlc and supplements is hardly likely to endear herself to a new family but she is so gorgeous that Claire loved her as well as Frank and Hazel and me. So, Debbie has a new family to join and I'm so grateful to everyone who has supported her so far. Can't believe it really. Ideally I'd have loved to have had her with me but circumstances don't permit and so far as I'm concerned Frank and Hazel loved her straight away and their Gang were just so accepting of her and she was of them.

Great News Debbie, it sounds as if you have landed on your feet (so to speak). Like you Kate we would have loved to have had Debbie but decided our 3 were far too nutty.

Debbie is getting on well with the Gang and they with her. She has decided which bed she likes best and funnily enough our dear Chockie who we had to say goodbye to this year had chosen it before her, he was also a dark brindle. Alfie sometimes uses it if he can't sleep with me. Debbie is also quite happy to spend time with any of the Gang during the day. Walking is obviously difficult for her at times and although it's early days she is showing a 'can do' attitude. She is happiest walking on grass where she uses her bad leg to good effect for balancing and we have found putting a boot on she is a lot happier on harder surfaces. We have found sharp noises can put her in panic mode which is the last thing we want. She is a lovely girl who will come when called although at first she would stand looking at you from a distance until guided into the house. She has already joined Rosie and Alfie in forming a very waggy greeting when we get home. Debbie walks well on the lead although a little unstable at times especially if tired. Today she came on an hours walk which enabled her to walk on grass for much of the time and gave her plenty of sniffing opportunities. I know Kate would have liked to have had her but was unable to at this time which in a way was lucky for us as Debbie had used her powers of persuasion very effectively when we met her at the Carnival. It will be a pleasure looking after her and will be a great help in educating the public as to how many Greyhounds get treated which I am sure she won't mind. Debbie is now accepted as one of the Gang and is here to stay.

Aaaah, Frank, this is wonderful news ... what a fab Gang you have - they're so happy to welcome another member and make them feel right at home. It was apparent from the Carnival that Debbie was quite happy to attach herself to you, Hazel and the hounds and I think you're right, she charmed her way to your home. Well done Debbie and I've no doubt she'll be a great ambassador for showing just what great pets they make even when they do get that bit older and have a few health issues. Well done to you all and hope to see you around some time soon. XXX

An update from Frank: Debbie is settling well. I have taken pics indoors with Debbie in the middle of them all but quality was poor, in the conservatory Debbie is in the middle under the window as she's decided that's her bed unless Alfie gets there first then she is likely to squeeze in with him. Rosie is on the futon with Leo's head on the right. I appear to have three regular tails that follow me now!

Fantastic news about our fundraising effort for Debbie. The Walking Stick was won today at The Show by Michael Bailey (a member of our Forum). We raised £117 in total to help pay for Debbie's supplements which will mean about a years supply of glucosamine, msm and devil's claw. Ann will be buying these in the next week or so to give to Frank to give to Debbie. Thank you everyone for being generous with this fundraiser ... it has made an old girl very happy ------ well, two old girls if you count me too!
